Dr. Ioanna Kantzavelou is Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Informatics and Computer Engineering, School of Engineering, at the University of West Attica, and Head of the INSSec Research Group (Information, Networks, and Systems Security). She received her Ph.D. in Intrusion Detection with Game Theoretic Approaches in IT Security from the Dept. of Information and Communication Systems Engineering at the University of the Aegean, her M.Sc. by research in Computer Security from the Dept. of Computer Science at the University College Dublin of the National University of Ireland, and her B.Sc. in Informatics from the Dept. of Informatics at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens. Her research interests lie in the broad areas of Cybersecurity, Information and Communication Systems Security, Intrusion Detection, and Game Theoretic approaches in Intrusion Detection and Cybersecurity.

Specifically, her research focuses on the following areas: (1) Intrusion Detection with Game Theoretic Approaches in IoT, WSN, and Cyber Physical Systems, (2) Cyber Ranges for Education and Research, (3) Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructures and Merchant Shipping, (4) Hybrid Threats, Cyberterrorism and Cyberwarfare, and (5) Digital Forensics.

She has worked in R&D projects funded by the Greek government, the Irish government, and the EU. Her published work includes three books, eight chapters in books, and more than thirty papers in scientific conferences and journals, recording remarkable citations in her research work. She has joint editorship of three IOS Press collections. She has been a repetitive reviewer in more than thirty international conferences, such as ACM SEC, IEEE TrustCom, IFIP SEC, ESORICS, IEEE CIS, and she is currently reviewer for high ranking journals, of IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, MDPI, and Emerald. She is a member of the Greek Computer Society (GCS), of the ACM and of the IEEE Computer Society.
